“Clash of the Titans” and “Harry Potter” Converting to 3-D?

Looks like all of the hype surrounding the 3-D brilliance of James Cameron’s “Avatar ” has raised the stakes in the box office game: The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Warner Bros. is planning to release “The Clash of the Titans” and both volumes of  ”Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in 3-D, citing enthusiastic responses to the 3-D conversion tests for Titans.

As of now, Warner Bros. has yet to confirm this news, so it will be treated as rumor until such confirmation is made.

“Clash of the Titans” is scheduled for release on April 2, 2010. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, Parts 1 & 2, are scheduled to be released November 19, 2010 and July 15, 2011, respectively.

Official Image of Hogwarts from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Several Potter sites have posted the first official image released by NBC Universal from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The image is of a beautifully replicated Hogwarts castle, and you can see from the image the work and detail that went into making this magical landmark come to life. Hogwarts Castle will house “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey”, a state-of-the-art attraction that is promised to “use entirely new technology to bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in ways never before experienced.”

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is expected to open in Spring 2010.

Michael Shanks to appear on an episode of Supernatural

Fresh off his guest stint as Hawkman on Smallville‘s two-hour, Feb. 5 “Absolute Justice” movie event, Michael Shanks has
booked a return ticket to Vancouver to shoot an episode of The CW’sSupernatural.

The Stargate SG-1 alum will play a man named Rob, who is part of a local militia. Rob comes with a wife and son, but after a loss will devote himself solely to a cause. What’s the cause? Well, I’m still working on that. But feel free to guess below how this character might link up with the Winchester bros’ mission.

From Ronon to Conan: Jason Momoa secures role as Conan the Barbarian

It is being reported today that Jason Momoa, one of the stars of the SyFy Channel’s “Stargate Atlantis”, has secured the title role in the upcoming Conan the Barbarian remake. Momoa beat out rumored contenders Kellan Lutz (Twilight) and Jared Padelecki (Supernatural, Friday the 13th) for the role previously occupied by the Govenator, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Filming is scheduled to begin March 15 in Bulgaria.

I have loved Jason Momoa since he began on Stargate Atlantis and while I also love Kellan and Jared, I think that the physicality of the role – especially the fight scenes which are sure to be a huge part of the movie – are probably better suited to Jason, who – as Ronon Dex – is no stranger to fights and conflict. Good luck to you Jason.

Oh, and because I simply have to do this, here’s a photo I was able to have taken with Jason at my very first DragonCon in 2007…he told me I had beautiful hair *sigh*

My first online “articles”

A short while ago, I joined the website Helium, which is a website specifically built to help anyone become a better writer. The articles are all written and reviewed by members, and can also be compensated for, if your article meets certain criteria. Since I plan to write in some fashion on the web, I figured this was an excellent way to get some unbiased opinions on my writing.

This is a link to the first article I’ve submitted, which talks in detail about how my love for the Harry Potter series has had a positive impact on my life. It was originally submitted as an English class assignment (for which I received an A), and I thought it would be a good place to start.

EDIT: I have added a second article, which can be viewed here:

Fun article: Why “Harry Potter” is better than “Twilight”

I found this post very fun to read, as it cements a lot of the arguments that I’ve heard in this tiring, yet unavoidable debate. Her pet analogy is just priceless, and is probably the best comparison of the two series that I’ve ever heard.

Why “Harry Potter” is Better Than “Twilight”
Melissa Ryder defends Potter to the death and expresses her fears for her generation and their vampire-philia.

‘Supernatural’ exclusive: Sixth season or bust?

via ‘Supernatural’ exclusive: Sixth season or bust?.

Personally, I think that now I would love to see a sixth season. I would really like to see how the boys will work out their issues, since season 5 seems to be obviously gearing towards some kind of confrontation between the two in the Angel/Demon war.

HPANA to survive 2010 and beyond?

HPANA to survive 2010 and beyond? – HPANA

This is a cause that is true and dear to my heart, because without this website, hmrpotter  - let alone the Hanako that you know today – would not even exist.

This is a blog post that has circulated quite a few times in the past few years, as a way that I’ve introduced myself in the Potter fandom. It’s a pretty condensed version of a more detailed, longer post that I once wrote but that has since been long lost into the vast universe that is the internet. HPANA – and the friends that I met there – are a very large part of how I got so involved in the Potter fandom, and subsequently into other fandoms, and the Sci-Fi/Fantasy community in general. At a time when I had become very unhappy in life, very unsure of who I was, and pretty much cut myself off from everyone, this site and it’s members welcomed me, embraced me, and made me feel like I had somewhere I could go and be completely myself: no pretenses, no fakeness, no trying to be someone I wasn’t. It didn’t matter my race, my background, my religious preference (or lack thereof), my job, my status, etc.; they became my friends because we shared one single common interest in a book. Wouldn’t it be great if all relationships could be that simple?

You know the bond that people feel towards their sports teams, their Alma Maters, their fraternities and sororities? Fandom gives the same feeling to those of us who don’t share (or simply don’t care) about those other experiences. It gives us a different way to meet new people, to bond and to learn to accept people as they are, similar and different.

However I can support this site – now and in the future – I will, because I can say sincerely that without HPANA and its members, I would definitely not be the person that I am today.

Originally posted in OCTOBER 2008 at http://potterprofiles.ning.com/profiles/blogs/introduction-1

I guess I’ll start this blog off with an introduction.

My name is Hanako. I am 33 years old and have been married for 13 years (although we’re currently separated). I have three children: 2 girls ages 12 and 10, and a boy age 6. All of my kids are Potter fans as well. Between the 4 of us, there are 2 Gryffindors and 2 Slytherins.

I got into Harry Potter in March 2005. I was working as a Media Secretary in my kids’ elementary school and we had gotten a shipment of brand new, donated books from one of the local banks. In this shipment was the 5-book Box set of HP (this was right before the release of HBP). Now, I had heard of Harry Potter before, but never was interested because of all the “bad press” surrounding it; in other words, I was one of those people who was making judgements on the book without reading it. I had been contemplating reading the series for a few weeks by then, but we never had the books available in the library, because the students kept checking them out. So when we got the box set in, I told my boss/friend that I wanted to take them home to read them before we put them into circulation. Since Spring Break was coming up, I figured I could take about 2 weeks, and it would give me enough time to read all of the books.

That was on a Thursday. I was finished with all 5 books by early Sunday afternoon. And I was hooked.

And I still had no clue whatsoever as to how big the Potter phenonmenon really was.

After reading the books a second time through, I took them back to work and shared my thoughts with my boss/friend. He was pleased that I loved them, because he had been trying to get me to read them for a few months, knowing that I would enjoy them.

Back then, I was also not very active on the internet (my, my! how things have changed! LOL) But I started hearing words like “fandom” and “online communities” and once again, got curious as to what all the fuss was about. I decided one day to go online and type in “Harry Potter fans”, and WOW. I was not expecting the number of websites that came up! I randomly picked one to visit (HPANA), and was amazed. You mean there are hundreds of thousands of people who are into this stuff?Online? I couldn’t believe it.

Then when I found that many of them were not kids but – in fact – adults, I began to get a bit more excited. I joined HPANA, and was very active on there for a few years, but since then I’ve joined several other Potter fan sites, and have gotten more active on my Facebook, Myspace and LiveJournal, which is where I spend most of my online time now.

I’ve been to a family-oriented HP gathering, Enlightening 2007, that was held on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania back in 2007. I’ve been to Dragon*Con twice now, and went last year for the first time because I found out that Matthew Lewis and James/Oliver Phelps would be there (that’s me and Matt together in my profile picture). I got to meet them all last year, and got to talk a bit more with Matthew this year when he came back to Dragon*Con. I started reading fan fiction almost 2 years ago, and have written a few pieces myself. I’m slowly getting involved in cosplay, and I belong to a local Adults only Harry Potter group that meets once a month. Oh yeah, I also collect stuff: dolls, stationary, trading cards, books, magazines, etc. You get the picture!

So yeah, HP has become a very huge part of my life. I’ve met friends from all over the world, and it has helped me thorugh some very rough times in my life over the past few years. Most importantly though, I think HP has helped me to understand that there’s nothing wrong with being different, for liking things that others don’t like, and to be comfortable with who I am. Yes, I’m a “grown-up” who fell in love with a children’s book. But that children’s book has helped me find out who I am as a person more than anything else in my life, other than my husband and children.

There are a few others that I’m a bit undecided on, and I’m sure there will probably be some additions and subtractions to the list. Honestly, I’m quite surprised at the number of “chick flicks” that made this list, and a bit appalled at the lack of action movies coming out, but again – time will tell.

What are you looking forward to seeing this year?

(List of upcoming movies by release date provided by Movie Web.)

Due to things like work, school, parenting, and finances, I was not able to go see all of the movies I had planned to in 2009. TV in 2010

It is almost time for my beloved shows to return from hiatus, and I must say that I’m really excited about it. I believe that 2009 was the year I watched the most television, since I’m usually more of a reader than a couch potato. Here are the shows that I am most looking forward to seeing return:

January:
24
Supernatural
The Vampire Diaries
Law and Order: SVU

March:
V

Summer:
True Blood

Now, this list may not seem like a lot to most people, but considering that I both work and go to school full-time, have 3 kids to care for, and try to have some kind of a social life – in between doing lots of Potter-related stuff – this is actually quite a lot. Also, I know that there are other shows out there (both active and cancelled) that I’ve had recommended to me, and I do want to try to fit some of that in as well. Needless to say, my DVR will probably be getting a good workout this year.

What shows do you like? What would you recommend? Let me know.

The Dragon*Con countdown has begun!

So far, there are only 16 guests on the list for DragonCon this year, but I can feel my inner Deep Space Nine fangirl coming out!

Guests of interest so far:

Howard Hesseman – from the old and newer WKRP series, and he was the teacher in Head of the Class (you know, the series Robin Givens was in)

Jonathan Frakes – Commander Riker from TNG

Marina Sirtis – Deanna Troi from TNG

Rene Auberjonois – Odo from DS9

Ashley Greene – Alice from the Twilight movies

Kellan Lutz – Emmett from the Twilight movies

Sherrilyn Kenyon – #1 author of adult vampire novels in the world. I have several of her books, and they are on my “to read” list for this year.
